Matter, Light, Motion

The French artist Lecaret strove to conceive a new art form, a new medium. An art form that is both plastic and graphic, one that is personal and intimate. From this extensive ambitious quest was born the CWA (Contemporary Wrist Art). With this concept, Lecaret created the first contemporary works of art for the wrist. An exceptional artistic manifestation of the equation of matter, light, and motion.

Developing the concept resulted in the creation of a volume with a pure, timeless character. Angles and surface finishes were subtly positioned to allow the light to refract quickly when moving the wrist. The aim being to offer a kinetic perception of luxury, brilliance, and plurality of the works both on the plastic and graphic levels.

The manufacturing process of the CWA concept was inspired by luxury watchmaking techniques, blending modern technology and handcraft.

The CWA consists of two parts cut from blocks of 316L stainless steel. The upper part called the bezel and the lower part called the case middle are fastened together by 4 steel screws on the back. All of the surfaces are hand polished and satin finished. The case middle has a volume with 21 satin-finished sides. The wristband attachments are housed in the case middle by means of pump barrettes. The bezel, which has 9 faces, appears like a small metal painting. Its satin-finished surface with its mirror-polished angles seems to be torn by the graphic work it houses. The crystalline background of the engraving plays with the light through an effect of depth and matter. This differential between surface and plane recomposes the perception of the work, according to the movements of the wrist.

All surfaces are perfectly flat to ensure fast, intense, and full light refraction. This architecture creates an almost unreal glow to the pieces.

Lecaret developed an extraordinary bracelet, designed as a wrist showcase for this concept. The bracelet consists of a long and a short strand, and a plate with loops on which the CWA rests. This specific element ensures excellent comfort as it adapts to different wrist morphologies. The CWA is a prestigious handcrafted product, made from smooth calf leather. The carefully selected leather comes from the legendary French tannery Hass.

A sculptural pin buckle was created specifically for this design, in 316L steel. It ensures adjustment and closure of the bracelet. It has 15 surfaces, 10 satin and 5 polished, and is completed with a solid polished pin made up of 7 surfaces. This combination creates a resonance with the CWA, ensuring the extension of the light refraction over 360 degrees.

The CWA pieces on offer are of the type: Original work, 8 numbered pieces from 1/8 to 8/8.

Each piece is presented in a black lacquered wooden box, accompanied by an authenticity booklet filled in and signed by the artist, plus a unique identification code assigned at the time of sale.

With his CWA concept, the artist Lecaret challenges the world of contemporary art by proposing a new vector, modern and complex, mixing luxury, kinetics, and plurality of perceptions.
